Speed Limit to play at Mulligans in Farmingdale

August 30, 2009

So – hope you had a great summer of music around the Jersey Shore – yes, the weather did suck most weekends, but we had some fun.  It’s not over yet.  Those of us who really want to, can stretch summer right into early October.  It’s a state of mind thing.

Speaking of October – Speed Limit (the band I play keyboards in) is playing Saturday night – October 3rd at Mulligans in Farmingdale.  We’re expecting alot of people there – Thanks to Hank Grassi, our de-facto manager for hooking us up.  We’d love to play at your club too – you can email Hank for more info.

Check out our performance on Manalapan Day - great sound system – we’re looking forward to doing it again next year.

Or watch it here:

Labor Day Already? Nah – can’t be!

August 31, 2008

Summer flew by for me – guess it was because I was working Saturdays.  Kind of put a crimp in getting out to hear music, so sorry about infrequent posts.  Went to Long Branch last night – Who was that great 3 piece playing in the restuarant on the corner?  If you know, please post a comment – great version of “Come Together”. There was an incredible fireworks display on the beach.  Beautiful night on the water.  Very crowded by the Ocean Place Hotel. If you haven’t been to Long Branch – well, make it your business to get there soon – Pier Village is a good example of urban renewal.  Except for the fact some good, hardworking people lost their homes because of eminent domain for our shopping pleasure – sorry no politics..

Check out our new videos – Joe Rapolla from Songwriters by the Sea – what a great series – hope to have more videos of these talented performers up soon.  Pat Toner played one night – he’s such a naturally talented guy – a pleasure to listen to him too.  And the boys in “Speed Limit” are the kings of the barbeque circuit – give them some potato salad and burgers and they’re there!  Check their videos too.

If you have video of your Jersey Band performing this summer, why don’t you send us a link to it and we can post it on our VodPod account here too.

Have a great week!

Steve

PS – have you seen Sheryl’s website called MoveToMonmouth.com?  Check it out!

Where have all the American Flags Gone?

July 6, 2008

Hope you all had a great musical July 4th! Why is it that there seems to be less “flying of the flag” on our national holidays? Just a personal observation – I live in a cul-de-sac of about 30 homes – why is there only one other house on my street flying the flag?

Songs of Summer
-

When I was a kid, we went to sleep away camp – and one of our favorite songs to listen to and play was “Summertime Blues” – The Who version – from Live at Leeds – I had never heard the Eddie Cochran version until years later.  Just found a great version of it on You Tube, from Woodstock – check it out on our Vodpod on the right.

Have a safe and enjoyable summer – keep the sun screen handy!

Jersey Shore Music from AsburyMusic.com

June 18, 2008

Following article is a press release from AsburyMusic.com – An informative and interesting site providing up to date information about the Jersey Shore music scene. Check out The Wave Gathering Festival –

Hope to see you there!

Steviekeys

June 18, 2008 — The city by the shore that was recently named by USA Weekend as one of the Top 10 Places to Hear the Best of America’s Music will truly earn its spot on the list this weekend as the Wave Gathering Festival returns for a third straight year. The festival will take place from June 20-22 in venues throughout Asbury Park, New Jersey. And, once again, AsburyMusic.com is the place to turn to for the most complete festival coverage.

AsburyMusic.com has put together its traditional Wave Gathering Preview which includes fully customized schedules, information on the artists, local area information such as restaurant and hotel directories, and the website’s own recommendations for who to make sure to see and how to see as much music as humanly possible during the three days.

The customized schedules were introduced last year and proved to be the preview’s most popular feature. Users can choose between creating their own personal schedule (based on the artists they choose from a list) for the entire festival or for a particular day. All it takes is a few keystrokes and a customized schedule is instantly created for you and ready for printing.

The tri-state area is well represented with bands from New York City, Philadelphia and the best in New Jersey talent. In fact, over 200 artists will perform at this year’s festival – including artists from all around the world. Admission is $40 for a 3-day pass or $25 per day. Tickets are available online from ticketweb.com

Some of the artists scheduled to play include April Smith & The Last Picture Show, Ari Hest, Glen Burtnik, Greg Trooper, LP, Laura Warshauer, Matt O’Ree, Mieka Pauley, The Ruling Party, Spiraling, Val Emmich, Waves Of Nine, and the Whirling Dervishes.

In addition to the online preview, AsburyMusic.com’s online radio station will be airing a “Wave Preview Show” at 3pm and 9pm each day. The station is located at www.ThePenguinRocks.com and is available anywhere in the world.

AsburyMusic.com has also put together an online magazine in PDF form with interviews and features on 25 of the artists playing the festival. These articles were written by Gary Wien, a three-time Asbury Music Award Winner for Top Local Music Journalist.

AsburyMusic.com has been Asbury Park’s online music community since 2003. It is the place where local musicians hang out in the chat room and visiting musicians get the lowdown on the local area and best ways they can promote their show in town.

Eric Clapton at PNC

May 23, 2008

Clapton headlined last night at the PNC and I was lucky enough to score two tickets, so of course I asked my 16 year old son to join me. It was a brisk night and thankfully no rain. EC was in great form and his band is quite up to the accompanying task – great keyboard player – who is that guy?

eric claptonWhat a magnificent sound he gets from his stunning signature Stratocaster painted Ferrari Grigio Silverstone (or is it Pewter)? We know where you can get a great deal on one in your choice of colors -www.JerseyShoreMusic.com

Check out www.whereseric.com to view the set list and reviews. You can buy EC merchandise at reasonable prices there as well. They wanted $40.00 for a T shirt at the venue – between that and the price of gas and $8.00 beers, well you get the idea…

Robert Randolph and the Family Band opened the night – an incredibly cookin NJ band, hailing from Morristown – I’ve never heard anybody wail on a pedal steel guitar like he does – he went head to head, trading licks w/Clapton during the encore – amazing work. They’ll be playing at the shore this summer, so keep your eyes out for them!

So – we want to hear from you – about your favorite Jersey Bands – upcoming shows, reviews, etc. This is your place to promote! Enjoy the Memorial Day Weekend!

JSM – great gear – great prices

Meet Springsteen’s Rosalita and rock muses Rikki and Sharona, too

April 21, 2008

“Rikki” did lose that number. “My Sharona” has a Web site.

“Rosalita” hooked up with Bruce Springsteen at the beach – as her boyfriend “Wild Billy” drank with his buddies nearby.

All grown up now, these women made famous by classic rock songs told More magazine their lives were changed forever by playing bit parts in pop culture.

Four decades after she briefly met Steely Dan rocker Donald Fagen, Rikki DuCornet still cannot escape the song written for her.

“I notice it walking into a sushi bar, going into a drugstore. Take an airplane, there it is,” DuCornet, 65, told More. “It’s become a constant, something to hold onto.”
